Approach
-
I reviewed the website’s current state and made suggestions to update the navigation. It was easy to get lost in the site & be unable to retrace one’s steps or find something new. The changes would allow for improved visibility of system status as well as user control & freedom.
-
With interviewing the client, I learned about their existing volunteers: the benefits & the issues. Also, what types of people she wanted to attract in the future. The ideal volunteer is youthful and energetic. I used these adjectives in creating a brand tone so that we attracted the right people.
-
I designed a simplified logo by merging their primary offerings: photography & film. The simplified font & camel case styling make it easier to read. I leveraged existing colour to allow for consistency throughout the website.
-
With the brand in mind, I created a an energetic & approachable website through tone of voice & visuals. The layout shows a brief summary of different volunteer streams. This allows the volunteers to quickly compare prior to selecting the one that suits them best.
Final thoughts
It feels good to do good. We did this project pro-bono for one of the kindest souls I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I hope they are able to gain more volunteer help because of the new website. We look forward to hearing how Dr. Barbra Seniors Harkins Foundation continues to serve their community.
